The present invention relates to an apparatus for automatically aligning banknotes, more particularly, to an apparatus for automatically aligning banknotes which scans and recognizes the first banknote among the supplied banknotes, sets the bottom surface of the first banknote as a reference, and makes surfaces of the continuously supplied banknotes be the same as the first banknote. An apparatus for automatically aligning banknotes according to the present invention includes: a banknote supply unit for supplying banknotes one by one through an insertion unit formed in an upper part of a body; a reference surface recognition unit for scanning and recognizing the bottom surface of the first banknote supplied from the banknote supply unit; a first direction conversion unit which is operated by a signal detected from the reference surface recognition unit for converting the direction of movement of banknotes to make top and bottom surfaces of the banknotes be the same as the first banknote; a second direction conversion unit which is operated by a signal detected from the reference surface recognition unit for converting the direction of movement of banknotes to make left and right surfaces of the banknotes be the same as the first banknote; and a discharge unit for discharging alignment-finished banknotes conveyed by the banknote supply unit.
