Summary: | The present invention relates to a method of preparing an aluminum oxynitride powder using an aluminum powder, and more particularly, to a method of preparing an aluminum oxynitride powder having good UV emitting properties. An aluminum powder is used as an initial powder, and the aluminum oxynitride powder may be synthesized by a simplified process at low costs when comparing to a common synthetic method. In addition, the nitration degree and the oxidation degree of the aluminum oxynitride powder may be controlled only by changing a heat treating temperature. Thus, the wavelength of light emitting in a UV region may be easily controlled. The method includes a step of mixing raw materials of forming a mixture by homogeneously mixing an aluminum powder and a carbon powder, a step of nitration and oxidation by heating the mixture obtained at the mixing step of the raw materials under an atmosphere blocked from the inflow of external air, a step of pulverizing a precipitate produced through the nitration and the oxidation step into a minute powder state, and decarbonization step of re-heating the precipitate having the minute powder state through the pulverizing step under an atmosphere allowing the inflow of external air.
