Summary:PURPOSE: A method for recognizing the position of a pneumatic sensor in a tire pressure monitoring system is provided to recognize the front and rear positions by comparison of magnetic field rather than radio frequency, thereby mounting a receiver in a center fascia of a tire. CONSTITUTION: A method for recognizing the position of a pneumatic sensor in a tire pressure monitoring system comprises a step of receiving the acceleration signals measured in the normal and tangential directions by an acceleration measurement module within each pneumatic sensor installed in a vehicle tire and a magnetic field measured in the biaxial directions(S61), a step of determining whether the installation position of the pneumatic sensor is a right side or a left side based on the phase different between the acceleration signals in the normal and tangential directions(S63), and a step of determining whether the installation position of the pneumatic sensor is a front side or a rear side based on the intensity different between the magnetic fields in the normal and tangential directions.
