Summary:A vehicle number recognition system and a control method thereof are provided to minimize a data process amount by analyzing only a specific region of monitoring image. A vehicle number recognition system includes a monitoring camera(10), a number recognition camera(20), an IR(InfraRed) LED(Light Emitting Diode)(30), and a controller(40). The monitoring camera tapes a monitoring region. The number recognition camera tapes a vehicle, when the vehicle is found in a monitoring image. The IR LED is synchronized with the monitoring camera and the number recognition camera. The controller analyzes the monitoring image to determine whether a vehicle exists and drives the number recognition camera and the IR LED, such that the vehicle is tracked in the monitoring image. The controller recognizes the vehicle number from the image. The controller divides the monitoring image into analysis and non-analysis regions and detects the vehicle only in the analysis region.
