Summary:PURPOSE: A master spindle for a tapping machine is provided to decrease the length of the chuck supporting member by integrally forming the chuck supporting member, and to prevent breakage of the spindle bolt and the bushing nut by arranging the umbrella type chip cover in the lower part of the chuck supporting member. CONSTITUTION: A master spindle for a tapping machine is composed of a chuck(53) detachably mounted to a tap tool(51), a chuck supporting member(55) for mounting the chuck, a spindle bolt for fixing the upper part of the chuck supporting member, and a bushing nut(59) combined with the spindle bolt and arranged in the lower part of the chuck supporting member. The upper part of the chuck supporting member for mounting the chuck is integrally formed with the lower part of the chuck supporting member for fixing the spindle bolt. The length of the chuck supporting member is decreased, and a chip cover(61) is placed in the lower part of the chuck supporting member.
