Summary: | PURPOSE: A method for recovering terephthalic acid is provided, to obtain terephthalic acid with a purity of 93% or more from the second waste obtained by extracting benzoic acid from the first waste generated in the production process of terephthalic acid, by controlling pH. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of mixing a second waste which is obtained by extracting benzoic acid from a first waste generated in the production process of terephthalic acid, with water and stirring the mixture; dissolving the obtained mixture with a sodium hydroxide solution; and neutralizing the obtained solution with an NaHSO3 solution at a temperature of 3-90 deg.C to obtain a terephthalic acid crystal by precipitation. Preferably the neutralization is carried out at a temperature of 30-90 deg.C. |
