Summary:PURPOSE: An intermediate compound is provided to be useful in the preparation of polycyclic amine having valuable pharmacological properties as neurokinin receptor antagonists. CONSTITUTION: The intermediate compound is represented by the formula II, V or VII, wherein m is 2 or 3; Ar' is unsubstituted or substituted phenyl, thienyl, benzothienyl, naphthyl or indolyl; n is 2; p is 1; Q is oxygen or two hydrogen atoms; E is hydroxyl or an O-protective group selected from the group consisting of tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy, methanesulfonyl and a designated group; T is a group selected from -C(=O)- and -CH2-; q is 0. 1. 2 or 3; and Z is unsubstituted or substituted phenyl, naphthyl, pyridyl, thienyl, indolyl, quinolyl, benzothienyl or imidazolyl.
