Summary:PURPOSE: Provided is Macrolactin F, an extract preparation from culture medium of Streptomyces sp. YB-401 (KCCM 10119), having a depression effect of cholesterol bio-synthesis. The Macrolactin F inhibits the activity of squalene synthase (SQS) which is a speed control step of biosynthesis of cholesterol in the body. When the Macrolactin A is developed to a drug after clinical test, it will prevent and treat the cardiovascular diseases such as arteriosclerotic hear disease and coronary artery disease. CONSTITUTION: Streptomyces sp. YB-401 (KCCM 10119), a soil Actinomyces, is used for the purification of the SQS inhibitor. The above SQS inhibitor, an extract preparation from the culture medium of the above strain, Macrolactin F, is prepared by the steps of: extracting the culture medium of Streptomyces sp. YB-401 by acetone; obtaining the active fractions of the above extract by running through WK-10 column and HP-20 column and extracting the active fractions by ethylacetate; and obtaining crystalline compound by silica gel chromatography and identifying the compound as the existing Macrolactin F.
