Summary:PURPOSE:To secure heat resistance and durability of insulating layer and to enable a large power to be fed to a discharge tube stably, by coating at least one of a pair of discharge electrodes which are laid out facing each other in the discharge tube with a dielectric insulating layer having elasticity. CONSTITUTION:A dielectric coating layer 5 consisting of a material which shows elasticity against expansion and owns electrical insulation and dielectric properties is coated around the outer periphery of a discharge tube 1 and that of discharge electrodes 2 and 3. The above coating layer 5 consists of inorganic matter which mainly is made of SiO2 and Al2O3 and is formed in the following manner. Namely, after connecting a lead wire for feeding power to one part of the above electrodes 2 and 3 by means of brazing etc., a glaze mainly consisting of Si2, Al2O3, CaO etc., is applied to the insulation coating as ground treatment and is heated. This process is called the glaze processing. Alumina is coated on the heated glaze coating layer by flame spraying and then inorganic matter mainly consisting of SiO2 is impregnated on it.
