Summary:PURPOSE:To measure the distance from an object continuously when the distance varies from the phase difference between a sent wave and a received wave, the result of decision making between an area where the phase difference increases with the distance and an area where the phase difference decreases and the wave number from a reference distance. CONSTITUTION:A transmitter 1 outputs a rectangular wave, which is applied to a transducer 3 through an amplifier 2 and sent out in the air. A signal reflected by the body 4 to be measured is received by the transducer 5 and passed through an amplifier 6 and a waveform shaping circuit 7 to obtain a rectangular wave. Then a phase comparing circuit 8 generates the difference signal between the sent wave and received wave and the signal is passed through a smoothing circuit 9 to obtain a voltage output (e). This voltage output (e) is inputted to a microprocessor 15 through an A/D converter 10. Thus, the distance is measured continuously from the phase difference between the sent wave and received wave, the result of decision between the area where the phase area increases with the distance and the area where the phase difference decreases, and the wave number from the reference distance.
