Summary: | PURPOSE: To provide a control system which performs the function of a ventricle in asynchronism with the true rhythm of a patients heart and operates at optimum blood flow by using a pulsatory ventricle support system that can work as a heart aid means for a single or both ventricles. CONSTITUTION: A system comprises a driving console 38 and a blood pump of the disposable type. The blood pump comprises two chambers 14, 24 including flexible bag-shaped bodies 16, 26, the upper chamber 14 working as a charging chamber or atrium, the lower chamber 24 working as a pumping action chamber or ventricle. The bag-shaped body 26 of pumping action is isolated from the bag-shaped body 16 of the chamber 14 in which blood flows and from the pressure of the system by a first clover valve 22 at an entrance and by a second clover valve 30 at an exit. An outlet chamber 24 is emptied by air pulses fed from the driving console 38 and is filled with the blood of an inlet chamber when air is discharged through the console. An air pump 50 included in the driving console 38 supplies pressurized air to an electromagnetically controlled drive valve 46. |
