Summary:PURPOSE:To manufacture a thick product by welding without causing a restraint crack by forming gaps between openings of fitting holes and members to be welded and inserting filler metals therein to perform electron beam welding at the time of fitting the members to be welded in the fitting holes provided to base metal. CONSTITUTION:The thick product 1 is formed in division of the base metal 2 and the plural members 3 to be welded and the fitting holes 5 consisting of large dia. hole parts 5A and small dia. hole parts 5B are opened at every prescribed interval via step parts 6 on the base metal 1. In addition, large dia. parts 3A and small dia. parts 3B are formed on the tip part sides of the members 3 to be welded via step parts 7. Then, the large dia. parts 3A of the members 3 to be welded are fitted in the fitting holes 5 of the base metal 2 and the filler metals 10 are inserted into the gaps 11 formed annularly between the large dia. hole parts 5A and the large dia. parts 3A. These filler metals 10 are subjected to the electron beam welding (EBW) and molten and afterward, postheated for stress relief. By this method, the restraint crack of the base metal 2 is prevented and the thick product 1 is formed and its manufacturing cost is reduced.
