Summary:PURPOSE:To produce easily pulverizable AlN powder in large quantities by heating a mixture of metallic Al powder with a halogen compd. contg. carbon in an atmosphere contg. nitrogen and ammonia. CONSTITUTION:Metallic Al powder is mixed with a halogen compd. contg. carbon such as polytetrafluoroethylene resin in 1:about 0.003 weight ratio of Al:halogen. The mixture is heated to about 700-1,700 deg.C in an atmosphere contg. nitrogen and ammonia to nitride the metallic Al powder. Thus, easily pulverizable AlN powder having a large specific surface area is obtd.
