Summary:PURPOSE:To extend the service life of a disk device, and also, to improve the reliability of a system by turning OFF a power source of the disk device, when a non-access time exceeds a limit value, and displaying a cumulative operation time and a cumulative ON/OFF frequency of the disk device. CONSTITUTION:When a disk access is not executed exceeding a prescribed time, a power source of a disk device 1 is turned OFF, and on the other hand, a cumulative operation time and a power source ON/OFF frequency of the disk device 1 are calculated, and its values are outputted for display or printing at the time of initially operating a system, etc. Accordingly, an operator can know the cumulative operation time and the power source ON/OFF frequency of the disk device 1, an inspection of the device and a replacement of parts, etc. are executed early, and a fault is prevented. In such a way, an useless operation of the disk is prevented, a service life of the disk can be extended, and a computer system having higher reliability is obtained.
