Summary:PURPOSE:To easily stop a tractor at a predetermined measuring position by the judgment of a driver, by providing an encoder to the wheel part of a carrier vehicle and mounting the processing system of the pulse signal outputted therefrom to the tractor. CONSTITUTION:A road surface measuring means 1 is constituted of a transmitter- receiver 10 using laser beam, a drive mechanism 11 for reciprocally moving said transmitter-receiver 10 in the direction crossing the advance direction of a carrier vehicle 2 at a right angle and a data processing system for operationally processing a receiving signal. The transmitter-receiver 10 is constituted by using a laser diode (or a unidimensional CCD sensor) as a signal transmitter (or receiver). An encoder 20 outputting the predetermined pulse signal corresponding to the number of rotations of one wheel 2A of the vehicle 2 is provided to said wheel 2A and constituted so as to be brought into the rolling contact with the outer peripheral part of the wheel 2A. By this constitution, since the encoder measures the moving quantity of the outer periphery of the wheel 2A, even when the outer shape of the wheel 2A changes by abrasion, no effect is exerted on the moving quantity of the outer periphery of the wheel 2A to a road surface E and measurement can be accurately performed. Further, the signal processing system 30 of the output signal of the encoder 20 can be also provided to the driver's cab of the tractor.
