Summary:PURPOSE:To enable accurate detection of characteristics of material, by outputting a range switching command to a range setting means when a elongation output is determined to have reached a range of a preset rate of the full scale. CONSTITUTION:After amplified 2 with an elongation detector 1, a detection signal is inputted into a multiplying D/A3. the signal with a factor amplification set by the D/A3 is outputted as elongation output signal through a buffer amplifier 4. The elongation output signal is inputted into a data processor 7 via an A/D converter 6. The device 7 outputs a switching command signal to the D/A3 to switch the sensitivity to a lower level range when judging that the elongation output has reached a set range, for example, 90% of the full scale. This enables accurate measurement of various test characteristics according to necessary measuring sensitivity.
