Summary:PURPOSE:To safely control an adequate inter-material spacing with high accuracy and high efficiency by providing means for stopping a material after moving the same by a set spacing upon detection of the front end of the material and stopping the charging upon detection of the final end of the material already charged into a heating furnace after the material is charged into the furnace. CONSTITUTION:A pair of transmission sensors 14 are installed apart at a distance from the front end of a fork 8. The fork 8 is moved by the set inter- material spacing and stopped when the sensors 14 detect the front end of the material imposed on the fork 8. The fork 8 is charged in this state into the heating furnace 1. The advance is stopped when the sensors 14 detect the final end of the material already charged into the furnace. The charging of the material parted at the set spacing is completed when the material is thereafter lowered onto a beam 2. This operation is executed by inputting the detection signals of the sensors 14 to a material charging controller 16 and controlling a motor 11.
