Summary:PURPOSE:To make a compression mechanism smaller in size and lighter in weight, by providing a back surface hollow portion and a suction chamber with a back surface portion of a mirror plate of a turning scroll member and defining a small hole through the mirror plate to communicate with the back surface hollow portion and an actuating chamber. CONSTITUTION:A ring-shaped base 20 is fixed on an inner circumference of a housing 8, a ring-shaped groove 21a is defined to a projection 21 formed in an inner circumference of the base 20 and a seal ring 22 is engagingly inserted into the groove 21a. On the other hand, a small hole 27 is defined through a mirror plate 15 of a turning scroll member 4 to communicate with an actuating chamber 18 and its back pressure chamber 24. Intermediate pressure gas, which is introduced into the back pressure chamber 24 from the actuating chamber 18 through the small hole 27, applies back pressure to the turning scroll member 4 effectively so that a suction chamber 23 on the outside of the base 20 is securely separated from the back pressure chamber 24 on the outside thereof. Since the seal ring is provided on a back surface side of the turning scroll member 4 a diameter of the turning scroll member is not made larger, whereby a compression mechanism is made smaller in size and lighter in weight.
