Summary:PURPOSE:To accurately measure the speed of a vehicle to be measured, by removing unnecessary data other than the binarized data at the terminal point corresponding to the specific part becoming the standard of the vehicle becoming a speed measuring object. CONSTITUTION:The image signal picked up by an ITV camera 1 is inputted to a binarization circuit 2 and binarized on the basis of a threshold level. The synchronous signal in the image signal is inputted to a synchronous separation circuit 3 simultaneously with binarization processing to be separated into a horizontal synchronous signal HD and a vertical synchronous signal VD and both signals are inputted to a timing generating circuit 4. The circuit 4 generates a clock pulse in synchronous relation to both synchronous signals to output the same to a terminal point extraction circuit 5. The binarized image signal is inputted to the circuit 5 to extract a terminal point and the coordinates data of said point is stored in a coordinates memory circuit 6. A microcomputer 7 removes the unnecessary data in the coordinates data at each terminal point stored in the circuit 6 and the running speed of a car is calculated while only the coordinates data at the terminal point corresponding to the tail lamp of the car is extracted.
