Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the titled leather-like material having fluffs mixed with grain surface having fine folded crimps, by applying an elastic polymer to a surface of an interlocked nonwoven fabric composed of ultrafine fibers and having an areal shrinkage falling within a specific range, embossing the fabric and buffing the product to cause the shrinkage thereof. CONSTITUTION:An elastic polymer is applied to an interlocked nonwoven fabric composed of ultrafine synthetic fibers of single filament fineness of <=0.3 ar and/or fiber bundles composed of the ultrafine fibers to obtain a fiber sheet having an areal shrinkage of >=10%. A solution or dispersion of an elastic polymer is applied to a surface of the sheet, dried, embosses and then buffed in a state leaving a part of the elastic polymer on the surface until fluffs of the ultrafine fibers are formed on the surface. The processed sheet is subjected to the simultaneous dyeing and shrinkage to an areal shrinkage of 10% to obtain a leather-like material having grain texture exhibiting an appearance having fluffs of ultrafine fibers mixed with a grain texture generating folding crimps on the surface of the sheet.
