Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent a defective contact by exchanging data between a card reader/writer and an electronic memory card and supplying power to an electronic memory card from the card reader/writer, both of which are made by a noncontact system by using light. CONSTITUTION:When the electronic memory card 10 is inserted into the card reader/writer 20, a card insertion detection sensor 21 operates, and a controller 26 causes a light source 22 to light up through an interface circuit 25. Receiving light from the light source 22, a solar battery 11 in the electronic memory card 10 generates electromotive force, and supplies it to a microprocessor 14, memories 15-17 and an interface circuit 18. In such a case, the memories 15-17 are activated. The controller 26 serially transmits preparation completion data to a light receiving element 13 in the electronic memory card 10 through an interface circuit 25 and a light emitting element 24. The electronic memory card 10 receives data that the light receiving element 13 receives by the microprocessor 14 through the interface circuit 18.
