Summary:PURPOSE:To manage the number of images registered on an optical disk by calculating up to how many number of images inputted from a scanner are to be written in average corresponding to the compression form and displaying it on a display device to inform it to the operator how many number of images are to be written before the image is written in the optical disk. CONSTITUTION:In setting an original 5 to the scanner 5 to command and original input request to the scanner 4, the scanner 4 fetches the inputted original, expands it into a memory 2 as dot data and displays the original on the display device 6. When the operator gives an instruction by key entry from a keyboard 8 to the original displayed on the display device 6, a control section 1 sends the dot data of the original expanded in the memory 2 to an image compression section 3, which applies image compression thereby sending the dot data and data size after compression to the memory 2. The control section 1 outputs the capacity of the optical disk 7 to be loaded on an optical disk controller 9 and the dot data size after compression to an imagenumber calculating section 10, where the number of images to be stored on one side of the optical disk is calculated and the result is displayed on the display device 6.
