Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain chrysanthemum-monocarboxylic acid having high optical purity in easy recovery of a solvent used and in good filtering characteristics of formed crystal, by using optically active alpha-phenylethylamine, etc., as an agent for optical resolution and carrying out crystallizing separation process in a hydrophobic organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:dl-trans Chrysanthemum-monocarboxylic acid or dl-cis/trans mixed chrysanthemum-monocarboxylic acid is dissolved in 2.5-6 times, preferably 3-5 times as much hydrophilic organic solvent (e.g. toluene or hexane) as the acid by weight, reacted with 0.2-0.6mol, especially 0.3-0.5mol based on 1mol chrysanthemum-monocarboxylic acid of optically active alpha-phenyl-beta- paratolylethylamine or alpha-phenylethylamine at 50-75 deg.C and a salt of one optically active chrysanthemum-monocarboxylic acid and the amine is crystallized. Then after crystal of the salt is separated from the mother liquor, the salt is decomposed with an acid or alkali to give the aimed chrysanthemum- monocarboxylic acid (d form providing an ester showing strong insecticidal activity).
