Summary:PURPOSE:To realize an optimum speed ratio or rotation speed of a rotary shaft on the primary side responding to a running state and to reduce incurring of the drive loss of a hydraulic source, by providing a correcting means which prepares a second target value being the direct target value of feedback control. CONSTITUTION:A belt type continuously variable transmission 14 for a vehicle is provided with a first rotation sensor 90, adapted to detect the rotation speed of a rotary shaft 16 on the primary side, and a second rotation sensor 92 for detecting the rotation speed of a rotary shaft 18 on the secondary side, and a signal is outputted to a controller 94. An engine 10 is provided with a throttle sensor 96, and an engine rotation sensor 98 to output a signal to a controller 94 to which a rotation sensor 98 is mounted. The controller 94 corrects a target speed ratio, and calculates a second target speed ratio being the direct target value of feedback control. The controller decides a speed ratio control value V0 of a gear shift control valve 44 so that the target speed ratio is coincided with an actual speed ratio, and a speed ratio is set to an optimum value in a way that a constant deviation is decreased to zero.
