Summary:PURPOSE:To feed both manuscripts and sheets of recording paper without the need of having the automatic paper feeder larger and more complex by mounting a separating mechanism which prevents the double paper feeding in the position through which the manuscripts and the recording paper pass. CONSTITUTION:In the manuscript feeding operation, when an upper feeding roller 5 is turned, manuscripts 18 are drawn one by one from the stacking position thereof and carried to the nip part between feeding and separating rollers 9 and 10. At this time, the feeding and separating roller 10 is turned in the direction D because of the application of the frictional force between said rollers 9 and 10 to feed in the manuscripts. If a plurality of manuscripts is fed between the feeding and separating rollers 9 and 10 at the same time, the lower feeding and separating roller 10 is subjected to lower friction force and turned in the direction contrary to the direction D by the driving force transmitted via a slipping clutch 11, whereby separating a plurality of sheets from each other. When recording paper sheets are fed, the lower feeding roller 6 is turned to feed out the recording sheets 2 inside a sheet cassettes 1. At this time, a pawl 3 prevents a plurality of recording paper sheets 2 of being fed out simultaneously.
