Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent sensitivity from being dropped at the time of reducing track width by setting up the thickness of the greater part of a part other than the vicinity of a gap in a read/write core to 1.5 times the track width or more. CONSTITUTION:A part near the gap G of the read/write core 2 is formed as a thin part 2a having thickness equal to the thickness Cw of a core material and the thickness Cw of the core material in other part is set up to 1.5 times the track width Tw. Both the end parts 3a, 3b of an erasing core 4 are arranged on both the sides of the thin part 2a of the core 2. Although the thickness of the part forming the read/write gap G must be equal to the track width as a matter of fact, it is unnecessary to set up other part to the track width, and when the thickness is set up to 1.5 times the track width, the sectional area of a magnetic path can be increased by the thickness. Even if the track width is narrow, the magnetic resistance of the read/write core 2 can be reduced and the sensitivity of the head can be improved.
