PURPOSE:To form a homogeneous LB film having no density irregularity, by applying uniform pressure to a film forming molecule from all of directions using a truncated cone-shaped cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A truncated cone-shaped cylinder 8 compressing the film forming molecule on an air-water interface has hydrophobic interior and exterior due to Teflon coating and is formed so that the relation phi2>phi1 is held between the diameters phi1, phi2 of the upper and lower bottoms thereof respectively. In forming an LB film, a film forming molecule solution is dripped on the air-water interface in the cylinder 8 and, after a solvent is perfectly volatilized, a motor 9 is rotated to allow the cylinder 8 to fall to uniformly compress the molecule dispersed on the air-water interface from an entire 360 deg.-direction. In this state, a motor 7 is rotated to insert a substrate 6 in the LB film on the air-water interface and the substrate 6 is subsequently drawn up to transfer and build up the LB film onto the substrate 6.
