PURPOSE:To make an expensive memory large in capacity unnecessary and to transmit read picture data to an external equipment, by providing a control means which divides the picture information of an original into plural reading areas responding to the storage capacity of a picture memory held by the external equipment, and drives and controls a scanning means at every reading area. CONSTITUTION:When the picture information is read, the movement of a scanner 11 is controlled in accordance with the amount of data possible to be stored in the picture memory 103, and all of the picture information to be read are read in separated several times, and are transmitted to a host computer 100 side. Therefore, it is possible to transmit the picture data to the host computer 100 side with minimum memory capacity at high speed. In such a way, in a case that a system such as an image processing device including an image scanner main body 1 is constituted, it is possible to transmit the picture data read by the image scanner main body 1 to the external equipment without using the expensive memory large in capacity such as a decicated frame memory, etc.
