PURPOSE:To prevent damage to a printing mechanism by providing a platen roller with first and second pulleys and automatically switching pulleys in accordance with the rotation direction of driving source to always rotate the platen roller in a certain direction. CONSTITUTION:A first pulley 71 and an second pulley 73 provided on the outside of the pulley 71 are attached to a platen roller 15. One-way clutches are pro vided in pulleys 71 and 73 and direction in which the revolving shaft of the roller 15 is locked by them are opposite. When a magnetic card is inserted, the driving source is rotated reverse and this rotation is transmitted to the pulley 71 through a synchronizing belt 81 to drive and rotate the rollers 15 in the normal direction. When the card is ejected, the driving source is rotated in the normal direction and this rotation is transmitted to the pulley 73 to rotate and drive the roller 15 in the normal direction. Thus, the platen roller is always rotated in the same direction independently of the rotation direction of the driving source to prevent damage of the head part of the printing mecha nism.
