Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain an oil absorbent applicable to water-oil mixtures ranging from a 50-50 mixture to a mixture wherein one component is less than the other, by mixing polyolefin fibers or pellets with an active filler, making this mixture porous, and forming this porous mixture into a desired shape. CONSTITUTION:Polyolefin fibers or pellets (A) are mixed with an active filler (B) which comprises a fine power of at least one substance selected from (foamed) silica, alumina, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, basic magnesium carbonate, calcium silicate, magnesium silicate, talc, and burned clay, and if required, is surface treated with at least one of palmitic acid, stearic acid, a silane coupling agent, and a titanate coupling agent. This mixture is stretched to make it porous and then formed into a desired shape. |
