Summary:PURPOSE:To measure an error with high accuracy by moving a measurement tip terminal by a horizontal and a vertical slide table according to points on a normal involute curve and detecting the quantity of displacement of the tip terminal. CONSTITUTION:A measuring instrument table 1 is installed at an optional position opposite a gear 10 to be measured. A point P having an optional radius (r) from the center of the gear 10 is defined on a tooth surface 11, and the measuring tip terminal 8 is applied to the point P and then to an optional point Q on a gear surface 11. Consequently, the normal involute curve can be calculated. Then the tip terminal 9 is moved from a measurement start point Q to a tooth top circumferential surface 22 according to the points on the normal involute curve which is calculated previously by moving slide tables 4a and 4b by pulse motors 5a and 5b. The displacement quantity of the tip terminal 9 is detected by a measuring element 2 to calculate the tooth profile error.
