Summary:PURPOSE:To easily measure an error with high accuracy by providing a measuring instrument table with slide tables which move a measurement tip terminal horizontally and vertically, and providing a jig for phase matching between the coordinate axes of a gear and the measuring instrument table. CONSTITUTION:While arms 16a and 16b are moved horizontally, spheres 14a and 14b are brought into contact with tooth surfaces 23 and 24, and 25 and 26 without any gap, and the arms 16a and 16b are fixed with setscrews 17a and 17b. Further, a table 4b is moved as shown by an arrow (a) until the measurement terminal 9 abuts on a tooth surface 12 from an optional measurement point P on a tooth surface 11, and the point is denoted as R. The Xm-Ym coordinate system which has the Ym coordinate axis of the tip terminal 9 on the center line of a segment PR and Om at the intersection of Ym and a tooth bottom circle 21 is in phase with the X-Y coordinate system which has it origin O in the center of the gear 10 and its Y axis running at O and Om. The tip terminal 9 is moved from the point P toward the circumferential surface 22 by pulse motors 5a and 5b through the tables 4a and 4b according to points on a normal involute curve to find the tooth profile error from the quantity of the displacement of the terminal 9.
