Summary:PURPOSE:To attain highly accurate positional recognition by providing the titled device with a black-and-white inverting circuit for inverting the black-and- white of an analog signal and a threshold compensating circuit for outputting the complement of the maximum level of the analog image signal as a threshold at the time of driving the inversional circuit. CONSTITUTION:An analog image signal from an image pickup device 1 is binarized by a binarizing circuit 2 and applied to a data processing circuit 5 by an inversion switching circuit 3 directly or through the black-and-white inverting circuit 4. A threshold setting circuit 8 and a threshold compensating circuit 9 applies a threshold providing a proper pattern feature value to the circuit 2. At the time of driving the circuit 4, the circuit 9 applies the complement of the maximum level of the analog image signal to the circuit 2 as a threshold.
