Summary:NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound expressed by the formula (R is H, alpha-ketobutyryl-N-methylvalyl or alpha-hydroxy-butyryl-N-methylvalyl). EXAMPLE:Mycoplanecin B (when R is alpha-ketobutyryl-N-methylvalyl). USE:An antimicrobial agent capable of exhibiting a powerful activity against bacteria, particularly tubercle bacillus. PROCESS:An actinomyces No.41042 strain, (FERM-P No.4504) belonging to the genus Actinoplanes is cultivated in a liquid culture medium by the shaking culture or spinner culture method with aeration. The pH of the culture medium is near neutral, and the temperature is about 28 deg.C. The resultant culture is then filtered and centrifuged to give the compound of the formula.
