Summary:PURPOSE:To easily produce the title soluble phosphazene polymer under relatively mild conditions without the formation of gel by heating a cyclic phosphazene compd. in the presence of an onium compd. to polymerize the compd. CONSTITUTION:The cyclic phosphazene compd. (e.g., hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene) shown by formula I (Y is 3 or 4) is allowed to react with 0.01-20mol% onium compd. at 150-300 deg.C for 0.5-50hr in an inactive atmosphere, and the phosphazene polymer is produced. An ammonium compd. shown by formula II and a phosphonium compd. expressed by formula III [R and R' are (substituted) aryls, alkyls, and alkenyls, and X<-> is a weakly neucleophilic or non-neucleophilic anion such as ee<-> and AsF6<-> are exemplified as the onium compd. The soluble polymer can be easily obtained under relatively mild conditions without formation of gel, and the polymerization degree and its distribution can be changed by appropriately selecting the polymerization conditions such as the kinds of the catalysts, the amt. of the catalyst to be used, polymerizing time, and polymerization temp.
