Summary:PURPOSE:To control the heat transfer rate by a simple manner, and to increase the controllable range of heat transfer rate, by operating to stretch a soft tube which is inserted in a heat transfer pipe, or by simply moving the tube. CONSTITUTION:A soft tube 2, made of material such as rubber or polymer, connected to a line such as a wire 3, is inserted in a heat transfer pipe 1. When a large heat transfer rate is needed, the tube is stretched by pulling the wire, so that a fluid can flow between the tube and the inside surface of a heat transfer pipe, and heat can be exchanged between the fluid and the inside surface of a heat transfer pipe. When the heat transfer rate is decreased, the wire is loosened to restore the deformation of a tube, so that the tube is closely contacted to the inside surface of a heat transfer pipe, resistance is given to the heat transfer surfaces, as a result the heat transfer rate can be decreased. The value of resistance to heat transfer surface can be determined by choosing the thickness and material of a tube to be inserted. The same effect can be expected when a value of resistance to heat transfer surface in an arbitrary part is changed and is set by moving the inserted tube to the longitudinal direction of a heat transfer pipe instead of stretching it.
