Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an optical disk having superior optical uniformness causing less retardation and having high sensitivity for reading of information recorded in the disk by using a specified polyetherimide resin as the base material. CONSTITUTION:A polyetherimide resin expressed by the formula I is used as the base material. In the formula I, R1 and R2 are H or methyl; R3 is particularly pref. a group expressed by the formulas II-V; n is pref. 5-5,000, particularly 20-4,000 (n is the number average polymn. degree). If n is <5, the optical disk will be warped by heat and influenced easily by the change of torsion, etc. If n is >5,000, the molding will become remarkably difficult. By this constitution, the retardation characteristic of the disk will become smaller, and the optical uniformness will be superior, and the sensitivity for reading information recorded in the disk will become higher.
