Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent a surface deteriorated layer from being generated on the upper surface of a work, by forming an insulating film layer on the upper surface of the work thereafter performing its electrolytic discharge cutting and finally removing the insulating film layer. CONSTITUTION:When electrolytic discharge machining is performed, an insulating film layer 10 is formed by applying insulating wax 9 onto an upper surface 8 of a work 3, thereafter the electrolytic discharge cutting is performed. Here the work, whose upper surface is protected by the insulating film layer 10, prevents a surface deteriorated layer due to electric action from being generated on the upper surface. However, the electrolytic discharge action is performed in a contact part 11, where a machining groove side surface is brought into contact with the periphery of a grinding wheel, and the machining advances with no worsening of the electrolytic discharge action. After the machining is finished, the wax 9 is dissolved and removed by a solvent or the like.
