Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a metallic mold for forming a shell mold having high heat conductivity as well as hardness and tensile strength by subjecting the surface of a copper alloy mold formed by adding a limited weight ratio of zirconium to copper to hard chrome plating. CONSTITUTION:This metallic mold for forming the shell mold is formed by subjecting the coper alloy contg. 0.01-3.0wt% zirconium to hard chrome plating. The mold has the high heat conductivity and can be heated to a prescribed temp. over the entire part thereof with substantially no uneven hardening. Since the entire part of the mold is heated in a short period, the energy comsumption is reduced and the thermal straining of the mold is obviated. The mold has high adhesiveness by repetition of heating and cooling, and good wear resistance against sand. The life of the mold is thus extended.
