Summary:PURPOSE:To specify easily an optical signal by adopting the constitution that a signal branch element and a signal summing element are provided separately independently so as to simplify the signal processing at each terminal. CONSTITUTION:An optical signal generated by a light signal sending section 113 of a terminal 11 of a host processing unit is inputted to an optical star coupler 1A through an optical fiber 130, distributed to optical fibers 131 135 and sent to terminal devices 21-25 in parallel at the same time. In case of the signal transmission from a terminal device in the field to the host processing unit, e.g., the signal transmission from the terminal device 22 to the terminal device 11, an optical signal generated by an optical signal transmitter 223 is inputted to an optical star coupler 2A and distributed into optical fibers 230, 231 and 233-235. The optical transmitters 213 and 233-235 are connected a the terminal in the field and any photodetection operation is caused even when the signal is inputted. As a result, the distributed signal is received by a photodetector 112 only.
