Summary:PURPOSE:To efficiently form surface layer superior in adhesive property with parent material and made of dense nitride or carbonitride of Zr without causing stress in parent material, by applying diffusion treatment of Zr at a prescribed temp. while using a specified treating agent after forming nitride layer on surface of ferroalloy material. CONSTITUTION:Surface of ferroalloy material is subjected to nitriding treatment to form nitride layer of Te.N or Fe.C.N. The ferroalloy material, Zr material and >= one kind among chloride, fluoride, fluoboride, oxide, bromide, iodide, carbonate, nitrate, borate of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or >= one of halogenide ammonium salt or metal halogenide are allowed to coexist with each other. Next, this is heat treated at <=700 deg.C to diffuse Zr to the ferroalloy material surface and to form the surface layer. By such a method, surface layer superior in resistances for wear and baking is obtd.
