Summary:PURPOSE:To detect and prevent the illegal using of a CATV converter such as a television stealing of a subscription broadcasting or an unreasonable modification by detecting the opening condition of a cover by a microprocessor, selectively rewriting and erasing the information except for the information required for the basic operation of a converter, and informing the opening of the cover to a center by using a transmitter. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 15 is backed up equally to a memory 16 and is operated even on the abnormal state of a service interruption. When a cover 19 is opened, a switch 18 is turned on or off and the input terminal 23 of the microprocessor 15 is changed from H to L. The microprocessor 15 selectively erases or rewrites the contents of a memory area previously determined by a program by changing the level of the input terminal and at the same time keeps the opening of the cover 19 on the memory. The information to the effect that the cover is opened which is kept on the memory by polling is transmitted by the use of a transmitter 11. The transmitted information passes through a CATV line 3, reaches a center 1 and is processed by a center side controller 8 through a branch device 9 and a center side receiver 7.
