Summary: | PURPOSE:To discover burning of an optical cable earlier, by inserting material with the refractive index almost equal to optical fibers and the temperature coefficient of the refractive index differing therefrom between end faces of a pair of the optical fibers to observe the temperature at several points. CONSTITUTION:Material 6 (e.g. glycerin) with the refractive index almost to optical fibers 4 and the temperature coefficient of the refractive index differing therefrom between end faces of a pair of the opposed optical fibers 4, supported with a support 6. An optical pulse tester 7 comprising a pulse light source and a detector section is provided at one end of the optical fibers 4. Thus, changes in the ambient temperature at several points can be monitored simultaneously with one piece of optical fiber by observing changes in the intensity of light power reflected on the boundary of the optical fibers 4 and the material 5. |
