Summary:PURPOSE:To increase a metal ion adsorbing speed, by reacting an amino compound represented by a specific formula with a resin having a halogenoalkyl group and subsequently performing acetylation reaction to impart a specific chelate forming group to said resin. CONSTITUTION:An amino compound represented by formula (wherein R and R are a 2-4C alkylene group and n is an integer of 0-10) is reacted with a resin having a halogenoalkyl group and acetylation reaction is subsequently performed to prepare a chelate resin. This chelate resin has a chelate group represented by formula II (wherein R and R are a 2-4C alkylene group, n is an integer of 0-10 and M is H, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline earth metal atom and an ammonium group). The resin having the halogenoalkyl group is obtained by converting a polymer of an aromatic vinyl monomer to a tridimensional polymer by a crosslinking agent.
