Summary:PURPOSE:To manufacture a multifunctional lens of simple structure which has a desired refractive index distribution by providing a chalcogenide glass layer on a transparent conductive film on a transparent substrate or lens and radiating its specific place with an electron beam. CONSTITUTION:The chalcogenide glass thin film 2 is provided on the transparent conductive film 1' on the transparent glass substrate or normal lens 1 and its specific place is irradiated with the electron beam 3 to form a chalcogenide glass thin film 2' whose refractive index is increased. In another way, the specific place of a thin metallic film provided on the thin film 2 is irradiated with the electron beam and the metal is doped to increase the refractive index. Thus, the desired refractive index distribution is formed by the easy method while the optical characteristics of a sample are monitored to manufacture the multifunctional lens and also easily correct a ready-made lens.
