Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a composite cylinder having uniform solidified structure by pouring a molten metal between the inside and outside cylinders consisting of a steel or stainless steel heated to have a temp. difference, then cooling the inside and outside cylinders at a temp. difference provided thereto and solidifying the molten metal under the pressure exerted thereto. CONSTITUTION:The composite cylindrical barrel 1 for a cask to be used for transportation and storage of a radioactive material is formed by pouring the molten metal 3 of a cast iron or cast steel between the inside and outside cylinders 2 and 4 consisting of the cylindrical steel or staniless steel and uniting the cylinders to one body. The outside cylinder 4 is heated by a heating burner 11 to provide a temp. difference between the inside and outside cylinders 2 and 4 and the molten metal 3 is poured between such cylinders at the time of casting. The outside cylinder 4 is forcibly cooled by cooling nozzles 12 after pouring to solidify the molten metal 3 while said metal is kept pressurized by the difference in the shrinkage between the inside and outside cylinders 2 and 4. The composite cylindrical barrel having the uniform solidified structure is thus produced.
