Summary:NEW MATERIAL:N-[2-(2-Thienyl)ethyl]-N-(2-chlorobenzyl)glycine expressed by formula I. USE:An intermediate from which 5-(2-chlorobenzyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2- C]pyridine (platelet agglutination inhibitor) can be advantageously and industrially produced. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula III is reacted with a compound expressed by formula II (X represents halogen atom; R represents H or lower alkyl) to obtain a novel substance expressed by formula IV, followed by reaction with a compound expressed by formula VI to obtain a novel substance expressed by formula V. When R represents the lower alkyl, the resultant substance is further hydrolyzed with an alkali such as potassium hydroxide, etc., to obtain the compound expressed by formula I. From the compound, said compound expressed by formula VII can be readily produced, through an acid halide derivative as necessary.
