Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition composed of a specific hydrolyzed keratin and a quaternary ammonium salt, suitable for the treatment between the treatments with the 1st agent and the 2nd agent, effective in suppressing the damage of hair caused by permanent wave treatment and giving excellent feeling to the hair. CONSTITUTION:The objective permanent wave intermediate treatment agent composition contains (A) a hydrolyzed keratin obtained by the hydrolysis of keratinous substance and having an average molecular weight of 200-5,000 (especially preferably 500-3,000) and a cystine residue content of >=0.5mol% (especially >=2mol%) and (B) a quaternary ammonium salt of formula (one or two of R1-R4 are 8-22C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl and the others are 1-3C alkyl, 1-3C hydroxyalkyl or benzyl; X is halogen or 1-2C alkylsulfate residue). The composition has pH of 2-7 (adjusted by the use of a weak acid or its salt of 1-7pKa as a buffering agent). EFFECT:I11 odor is eliminated and wave-forming property is improved.
