Summary:PURPOSE:To increase conductivity of a plate by increasing the density of a porous metal, having three dimentional net structure, toward the sides to which current collectors are welded. CONSTITUTION:Polyurethane foam having three dimentional net structure is cut, for example, in a piece of 50mm in width and 300mm in length so as to have 2-3mm taper in thickness along the width direction. After nickel plating, polyurethane is burned off to obtain porous nickel having three dimensional net structure, then the porous nickel is pressed to 1.5mm thickness. The porous nickel is filled with active material paste mainly comprising cadmium oxide, and dried to remove moisture, then pressed to 0.5mm thickness. After formation, the porous nickel sheet is cut in a given size to obtain an anode plate 2. The anode plate 2 and a cathode plate 3 are spirally wound with a separator 1 interposed to form a plate group, then a anode current collector 4 and a cathode current collector 5 are welded, and they are accommodated in a container to obtain a cylindrical sealed nickel-cadmium alkaline storage battery. The density of the porous metal having three dimensional structure is increased toward the sides to which current collectors 4, 5 are welded. therefore, conductiv ity is increased and voltage drop in high rate discharge is decreased.
