Summary:PURPOSE:To provide an abnormally transported sheet sensing device with a simple component construction switched by simple operation, by providing a logarithm amplifier for amplifying an electric output from a light receiving element logarithmically. CONSTITUTION:An electric signal output from a light receiving element 3 is amplified logarithmically by a logarithm amplifier 6. The output signal from the logarithm amplifier 6 is converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter to be applied to a CPU8. The CPU8 is provided with a memory 9. Since the logarithm amplifier 6 summarizes data, low values and high values for a wide range of measured values can be processed with the same relative accuracy. Further, a combination of a memory means and a discrimination means can discriminate whether sheets with different ratios of light transparentness are transported normally or not without operation and adjustment.
